In western Saudi Arabia is a natural wonder that intel recently was pretty unknown to the outside world.
Al Wahbah Crater, also Maqlaʿ Ṭamiyyah is a volcanic crater, which is about 350 Km away from Jeddah, on the western edge of the Harrat Kishb basalt plateau in the Hejazi region of Saudi Arabia. The Harrat Kishb plateau contains many volcanic cones. The bottom of the crater is covered with white sodium phosphate crystals.
It’s huge 2km diameter volcanic crater with great surrounding topography and gorgeous views. A great hiking trail as well. Your tour leader will help you to take best photos.
For a long time was it believed that Al Wahbah Crater was created by an ancient meteor strike. But now geologist instead has accepted that the crater was created volcanic activity in the form of an underground eruption that was caused when a flow of magma hit an underwater source of water which resulted in a colossal explosion creating the crater.
Super quiet and perfect to relax. You can hike down to the crater,Takes about 30mins to get down and about 45 mins to get back up.Should take plenty of water with you for your climb back up.
Sunset view at this point is always very fascinating. We shall drive back to Jeddah after sunset.
