Alexandria Full Day Trip

Alexandria, located on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, is a city rich in history and culture. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC, it was once home to the famous Library of Alexandria and the Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. A day trip to Alexandria offers the opportunity to explore its ancient ruins, modern architecture, and delicious seafood cuisine.

Itinerary:

9:00 AM – Meet your tour guide and start your day by visiting the Citadel of Qaitbay, a 15th-century fortress that was built on the site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse. You’ll have the chance to explore the Citadel and learn about its history, as well as take in panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the city of Alexandria.

10:00 AM – Head to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern library that was built to commemorate the ancient Library of Alexandria. Here, you’ll discover millions of books, manuscripts, and artifacts, and admire the library’s stunning architecture and design.

11:30 AM – Next, visit the Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa, a series of underground tombs that date back to the 2nd century AD. The Catacombs feature a mix of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art and architecture, and your guide will provide insight into their significance and history.

1:00 PM – Take a break for lunch at a local seafood restaurant, where you can try Alexandria’s famous grilled shrimp, fried calamari, and fish stew.

2:00 PM – After lunch, visit the Montazah Palace Gardens, a complex of gardens and palaces that was once the summer residence of the Egyptian royal family. Here, you’ll stroll through lush gardens and enjoy views of the sea.

3:30 PM – Finally, visit Pompey’s Pillar, a towering ancient column that dates back to the 3rd century AD. The pillar was built to honor the Roman emperor Diocletian and offers stunning views of Alexandria.

5:00 PM – End your day with a walk along the waterfront promenade of the Corniche, where you can watch the sunset over the Mediterranean Sea.
